Sophie Lindner Gives UNC Second Verbal Commitment From In-State Swimmer

NEW COMMIT: In early May Raleigh’s Grace Countie verbally committed to UNC Chapel Hill. Matthews’ Sophie Lindner has also give her verbal commitment to the Tarheel State’s flagship university, making two in-state verbal commitments for Carolina’s women’s Class of 2022.

Lindner is a rising senior at Covenant Day School and at SwimMAC Carolina. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier.

Her best times are:

  • 100 Fly 54.27
  • 100 Back 55.14
  • 200 Back 1:58.70
  • 100 Free 50.42
  • 200 Free 1:48.44

She said on her CollegeSwimming profile,

“I chose UNC because of the amazing coaches and team, as well as the stellar academics.”

At 2016 Junior Nationals East Lindner was on SwimMac’s winning 200 medley relay and third place 800 freestyle relay on the first night of competition.

As a sophomore at the 2016 North Carolina Independent Schools 3A high school state championships Lindner touched second in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly (55.54). At the 2017 meet Lindner out touched the 2016 100 fly champion to claim gold (55.30). Lindner was runner up in the 100 backstroke (57.10).

At the 2017 ACC Championships Lindner would have been a C finalist in the 100 fly, 200 freestyle, and 200 backstroke.
