SMU’s Lisa wanberg Named WAC Swimmer of the Week

DALLAS, Feb. 3. SMU's Lisa Wanberg has been named the Western Athletic Conference swimming and diving Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made Monday by the conference office.
Wanberg, a senior from Malmo, Sweden, had a standout weekend at the Texas Quad Meet in Austin, Texas. Joining the fifth-ranked Mustangs, were No. 6 Arizona, No. 14 Arizona State and host, No. 8 Texas.
Wanberg earned two runner-up finishes in both the 100 (50.61) and 200 (1:49.47) yard freestyle. Her time of 23.65 in the 50 free was good for fourth in the hotly contested event.
She was SMU's opening leg of its 400 free relay that took second, and was also a member of the third-place 200 free relay team. Wanberg also swam a leg on SMU's third place 400 medley relay team.
The award marked the second straight week an SMU swimmer won the honor. SMU's freshman Sara Nordenstam was named WAC Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 27.
