NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Mitchell Meyer of Woodbridge, Va. has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Florida on CollegeSwimmingHe will join Brendan PeacockJack VanDeusen, and Caleb Kravitz in Gainesville next fall.

A talented sprint freestyler and backstroker, Meyer swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club. He capped off his long course season with five best times at NCSAs this past summer after placing 11th in the 100m back at Potomac Valley LCM Seniors. Last winter, he finished fourth in the 100 free at the Tom Dolan Invite before going on to earn a trio of lifetime bests at NCSAs.

Also competing for Woodbridge Senior High School, Meyer is a six-time Virginia 6A State Championship finalist. He placed seventh in the 100 back and 14th in the 200 free as a junior after racing to eighth in both the 50 free and 100 free during his sophomore season. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also placed 13th in the 100 free and 15th in the 200 free during his rookie campaign.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am super excited to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Florida! The academics, coaching staff, and team environment is unmatched. I am really looking forward to training next fall and being a part of the Gator legacy. GO GATORS!!!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.39
  • 100 free – 45.89
  • 200 free – 1:40.39
  • 100 back – 50.87
  • 200 back – 1:52.04

Meyer has consistently made improvements over the past two years, dropping a second in the 50 free, three in the 100 free, five in the 200 back, and six in the 100 back/200 free. Although he’s not in scoring range just yet at the SEC Championships, he will add valuable depth to the Gators’ sprint freestyle and backstroke training groups.
