Six-Time South Carolina State Champion Anna Havens Rice Verbally Commits to Kentucky for 2020
NEW COMMIT: Greenville, South Carolina breaststroker and IMer Anna Havens Rice has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky as a member of the class of 2024.
Currently a high school junior, Havens Rice does her club swimming with Team Greenville and owns the U.S. Open standards in both breaststroke and both IM events. She placed tenth in the 200 IM and 20th in the 200 breast at Juniors East last month after taking fourth in the 200m IM at Junior Nationals this past summer. While competing for Greenville High School, Havens Rice has gone undefeated in the 100 breast/200 IM combo each of her three seasons thus far. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming career at the University of Kentucky!! As soon as I stepped foot on campus, I knew that was where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life! I want to thank all of my teammates, friends, family, and coaches for helping me get to this point. Go cats!”
Her best times include:
- 100y breast – 1:01.72
- 200y breast – 2:14.58
- 200y IM – 1:59.50
- 400y IM – 4:15.34
- 200y fly – 2:00.62
Havens Rice will add valuable depth when she arrives in Lexington at the start of the 2020-21 season. Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, she already would’ve scored in the C-final of the 100 breast at the 2018 SEC Championships. She will join Kaylee Williams and Sofie Davis as future Wildcats.
