Simone Sabbioni Cracks Italian Techsuit Record in 100 Back
Simone Sabbioni lowered a techsuit-fueled Italian record in the men’s 100-meter back during day one of the Italian Swimming Championships today.
Simone Sabbioni downed the Italian record in the men’s 100-meter back with a top time of 53.49. That swim eclipsed the previous record of 53.77 set by Mirco Di Tora at the 2009 World Championships, and shot Sabbioni up to seventh in the world rankings. Christopher Ciccarese finished second in 54.16 with Niccolo Bonacchi taking third in 54.51.
Alice Mizzau jumped to ninth in the world rankings in the women’s 400-meter free with a time of 4:06.22 with Diletta Carli just missing the top 10 with a 4:06.78 for second-place honors. Federica Pellegrini wound up third in 4:08.27.
Gregorio Paltrinieri moved up to fourth in the world rankings in the men’s 800-meter free with a 7:50.43. Only Mack Horton (7:47.36), Sun Yang (7:47.58) and Peter Bernek (7:50.42) have been faster this year. Samuel Pizzetti took second in 7:57.83 with Federico Vanelli earning third in 8:02.26.
Alessia Polieri hammered home a 2:08.62 to win the women’s 200-meter fly and claim 11th in the world rankings. Stefania Pirozzi took second in 2:10.55 with Emanuela Albenzi earning third in 2:11.59.
Marco Orsi jumped to fifth in the world rankings with a 48.50 to win the men’s 100-meter free. Filippo Magnini took second tonight in 48.79, while Luca Dotta wound up third in 49.04.
Margherita Panziera won the women’s 100-meter back in 1:00.83. Stefania Cartapani claimed second in 1:01.22 with Arianna Barbieri taking third in 1:01.29.
Francesco Di Lecce earned the men’s 50-meter breast title in 27.75 with Fabio Scozzoli taking second in 27.80. Andrea Toniato placed third in 27.98.
