Simona Quadarella, Marco de Tullio & Leonardo Deplano Book Tickets To Fukuoka At Italian Championships
Simona Quadarella, Marco de Tullio and Leonardo Deplano were among the swimmers who punched their tickets for Fukuoka on day one of the Italian Championships in Riccione.
Quadarella took the 800 free in 8:21.14 to book her spot at the World Championships where she’ll be seeking a third straight podium after bronze in Budapest last year followed silver in Gwangju in 2019.
De Tullio clinched top spot in the 400 in 3:44.69 to qualify for Fukuoka ahead of Matteo Lamberti (3:46.03) and Matteo Ciampi (3:46.58).
Lisa Angiolini took the slot in the 100br, the 2022 European silver medallist finishing in 1:06.18 ahead of Tokyo Olympic finalist Martina Carraro (1:06.37) and Italian record-holder Arianna Castiglioni (1:06.38).
European silver medallist Deplano won the 50 free in 21.87 ahead of Alessandro Miressi (22.12) and Lorenzo Zazzeri (22.24).
Thomas Ceccon, second at Rome 2022, won the 50 back in 24.93 although that was outside the cut.
Alberto Razzetti made the 200 fly cut, the 2021 world short-course champion clocking 1:54.98 ahead of Olympic bronze medallist Federico Burdisso (1:55.61).
Sara Franceschi is on the plane to Japan thanks to victory in the 400IM in 4:35.98.
