NEW COMMIT: Folsom, Calif. native and high school junior Katelyn “Katie” Yule has verbally committed to the University of Tennessee and will join the Lady Vols at the start of the 2020-21 season.

She will also join Elle Caldow in Knoxville as a member of the class of 2024.

Yule does her club swimming with Sierra Marlins Swim Team and owns a pair of Winter Junior standards. The NISCA All-American raced both backstroke events at Juniors West in December and competed in four races at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals last March. She capped off her long course season with two best times at Western Zone Seniors this past summer where her highest finish was an eighth-place showing in the 200m free.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond honored to commit to the University of Tennessee! They have such an outstanding program and phenomenal coaches. I fell in love with Tennessee the moment I stepped on the pool deck. My favorite thing about the team would be the energy they bring to every meet. I feel like it’s really easy to swim fast when you’re having fun and cheering on your teammates. I am proud to be considered a Lady Vol and I can’t wait to swim for Coach Matt and Coach Ashley.”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.90
  • 500 free – 4:53.66
  • 1000 free – 10:11.66
  • 100 back – 57.92
  • 200 back – 1:58.90

Although she’s not in scoring range just yet at the SEC Championships, Yule has made significant improvements each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Lady Vols. Over the past three seasons, she has dropped five seconds in her 200 free, 12 in the 500 free, 31 in the 1000 and seven seconds in the 200 back.
