Siena College this week announced the hiring of Brogan Barr as the head coach of its women’s swimming and diving team.

The Colorado native spent the last two seasons in upstate New York as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams at Hamilton College. The Continentals, who compete in Division III under head coach John Geissinger, set five school records and 70 top-10 program times while Barr was there.

“To join the Siena College community is immensely gratifying,” Barr said in a college statement. “I am beyond excited about our swimming and diving program’s potential. We have a roster of talented student athletes who have succeeded both in the classroom and in the pool, and who have it in them to make their mark in the MAAC and beyond. I can’t want to join our Saints swimmers and divers in moving the program forward and upward, and I thank Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio and Associate Athletic Director Drew Santandera for the opportunity to lead the team.”

Barr served as an assistant coach from 2015-17 for Williams College. The Ephs women’s team finished in the top 3 at the NCAA Division III championships twice and the men had two top-10 results under Barr’s tutelage. Barr also worked with five swimmers who qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Barr started her coaching career as an assistant at SUNY Potsdam in 2014-15. She worked for two summers as an aquatics specialist at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

“We’re excited to welcome Coach Barr to the Siena Family,” Siena vice president and director of athletics John D’Argenio said. “She’s an enthusiastic young coach with a strong vision for our women’s swimming and diving program, and will serve as a great leader and role model for our student athletes.”

Barr, a Pueblo West, Colorado, native, swam for Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, where she was an all-conference distance swimmer for the Golden Gusties. She received her bachelor’s degree in 2014 and earned a master’s degree in sport management from the University of Florida this year.

Barr is the sixth coach in program history. She inherits a team that finished eighth at the MAAC Championships last spring.
