Shocking: FINA Executive Director “Did Not See” Documentary on Russia Doping Scandal

FINA

Commentary by Brent Rutemiller, Publisher

PHOENIX – In what can only be called as shocking, Cornel Marculescu, Executive Director for the Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA), admits that he has not taken the time to watch the German film documentary “Secret Doping Dossier: How Russia Produces It’s Winners” exposing systematic doping in Russia.  The documentary has been the talk of the entire sporting world ever since its release two months ago.

This revelation is startling considering the fact that Russia will be hosting the FINA World Championship in Kazan, July 24-August 9, 2015.  RUSADA, Russia’s Anti-Doping Agency, will be conducting the doping control tests at the event.

RUSADA’s role in the scandal is mentioned in the documentary and will be part of an investigation by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).   WADA founding President, Dick Pound stated, “This is an extremely alarming case.” Pound will be a part of the three member investigative commission.

Marculescu seems to be oblivious to these events.  Further concerning, Marculescu endorsed RUSADA in a recent letter to the American and World Coaches Association where he not only admitted he has not seen the documentary but said, “… we consider our collaboration and relations with RUSADA as normal and good.”

One would think that Marculescu, the most powerful executive in aquatic sports, would have educated himself on the documentary or at least read the transcripts.

Just a quick search on the Internet shows that almost every media outlet in the world is reporting the seriousness and magnitude of systematic doping in Russia.  NOTE: Sometimes, the media gets it right!

We have captured a few of those links in an attempt to further educate Mr. Marculesu on the seriousness of this escalating issue:

Why is this shocking to anybody? It seems consistent with almost everything I’ve read about FINA in the last decade, from many, many different sources.
