Shaine Casas Cracks 45 Seconds in 100 Fly as Texas A&M Sweeps LSU

Shaine Casas lowered his school record in the 100 butterfly Saturday, the leading individual highlight of Texas A&M’s sweep of LSU in an SEC dual meet.

The men’s team claimed a 176-122 victory, while the women prevailed by a 172-116 margin.

Casas clocked in at 44.98 seconds to win the 100 fly, re-setting his program record and continuing his outstanding collegiate season. Casas also won the 100 backstroke in 47.11 and led off the winning 200 medley (with Andres Puente, Jace Brown and Tanner Olson) and 200 free (with Clayton Bobo, Olson and Kraig Bray) relays for the No. 4 ranked Aggies.

Olson and Puente swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, respectively. Brown won the 200 fly, Thomas Shomper claimed the 200 back and Kaloyan Bratanov showed his range by winning the 50 free and 200 individual medley.

The 13th-ranked women’s team followed the lead of Chloe Stepanek, who swept the 50, 100 and 200 free and anchored the victorious 400 medley relay with Grace Wey, Kylie Powers and Olivia Theall. Wey won the 100 back, Powers the 200 breast, and Theall led off the winning 200 free relay.

Camryn Toney (1,000 free), Jing Quah (200 fly), Sammy Schlicht (200 back), Taylor Pike (100 fly) and Caroline Theil (200 IM) added wins for the Texas A&M. Aimee Wilson led a 1-2-3 finish in the three-meter diving event, with runner-up Charlye Campbell claiming the one-meter victory.

On its senior day, Texas A&M recognized Gus Karau, Kurtis Mathews, Sean Morey, Tanner Olson, Felipe Rizzo, Hudson Smith, Mark Theall, Charlye Campbell, Kara Eisenmann, Taylor Pike, Jing Wen Quah, Camryn Toney and Harper Walding, Haley Yelle for their careers as Aggies.

The chase put on by the LSU men was led by its distance contingent. Brooks Curry won the 100 and 200 free. Mason Nyboer took first in the 1,000 free, then settled for second in the 500 behind Braydon Nyboer. Juan Celaya Hernandez swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events, the latter in a 1-2 with teammate Manny Vazquez Bas.

On the women’s side, Emilie Boll (100 breast) and Lexie Daniels (500 free) came up with victories.
