Seneca Valley’s Owen Blazer Sends 2020 Verbal Commitment to Miami Ohio
NEW COMMIT: Miami University (Ohio) has gained their first verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Cranberry Township, Pa. native and current high school junior Owen Blazer.
A talented butterflyer and backstroker, Blazer swims year-round with Seneca Valley Swim Team and owns four Summer Juniors standards. He most recently competed at Christiansburg Speedo Sectionals where he earned bronze in the 100 back and 100 fly after racing four events at Juniors East in December. This past summer, he recorded a trio of best times at Richmond Futures and placed fourth in the 100m back.
Also competing for Seneca Valley Senior High School, Blazer is a five-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. He placed seventh in both the 100 back and 100 fly as a junior after finishing seventh and 11th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. Blazer has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.
He told Swimming World:
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim & study at Miami University of Ohio. Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, & friends for helping me along the way. I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing team. Go RedHawks!”
His best times include:
- 50 back – 23.14
- 100 back – 49.38
- 200 back – 1:50.36
- 100 fly – 49.60
- 200 fly – 1:51.50
Blazer will make an immediate impact when he suits up for the Redhawks as a member of the class of 2024 and will add valuable depth to an already-talented roster. He would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 back and 200 fly as well as the B-final of 100 fly and 200 back at the 2019 MAC Championships where Miami Ohio earned the team title.
