Seminoles Get Verbal From Four-Time FHSAA 2A Champion Emily Cordovi
NEW COMMIT: Emily Cordovi has announced her verbal commitment to stay in-state and swim for the Seminoles. A native of Hialeah, Fla., she will join the Florida State class of 2023.
Cordovi does her club swimming with Gulliver Swim Team under head coach Chris George. She wrapped up a successful summer season at the Florida Gold Coast LCM Championships where she won the 50m back (30.63) and 200m fly (2:17.61) and was the runner-up in the 50m fly (28.24). Cordovi, who has her U.S. Open cuts in both butterfly events, is a 17-time finalist at the Florida Gold Coast SCY Championships over the last three seasons.
The two-time NISCA All-American also swims for Gulliver Prep School. At the FHSAA 2A State meet as a junior, she won both the 100 back (55.19) and 100 fly (53.86) and was just shy of the 2A record in the latter. She was the champion in both of those events (56.34, 54.67) during her sophomore campaign as well.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m so excited to be joining the FSU swim and dive team next year! I fell in love not only with the facilities but the people as well. I look forward to my next four years there. Go Noles!”
Her best times include:
- 100 fly – 53.86
- 200 fly – 1:59.40
- 100 back – 55.19
- 100 free – 50.94
- 200 IM – 2:04.43
Cordovi will make an immediate impact in the Noles’ fly group when she arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season. Her top 200 fly time would’ve been the second fastest on the team last year while her fastest 100 fly would’ve ranked third. She would’ve scored in the B-final of both events at the 2018 ACC Championships.
