It’s déjà vu for Eastside High School: both the girls and boys’ teams have repeated as SCHSL 4A State champions for the second-consecutive year. The girls won five events while the boys used impressive depth to repeat as champions. The meet took place on October 5 at the University of South Carolina Natatorium.
Girls Meet

South Aiken’s Kaitlyn Golyski, Jordan Foster, Kendall Leigh and Reagan Houck began the meet with a win in the 4×50 medley relay, stopping the clock in 1:50.34.
Eastside’s Riley Parker won a close 200 free battle in 1:52.17 to defend her title, edging out Dreher’s Hayley Mason (1:52.31). Parker then went on to win the 100 free (52.24) ahead of Wren’s Kate Beckish (52.86). Beckish won the 50 free (24.01) by a full second.
Greenville’s Anna Havens Rice had a dominant performance in the 200 IM, defending her title in 2:04.96 to finish six seconds ahead of Hilton Head Island runner-up Meaghan Lyons. Havens Rice successfully defended her 100 breast title as well in 1:04.67, again finishing just ahead of Lyons (1:05.85).
The 100 fly was yet another close race as Eastside’s Cara Bognar (58.08) came out on top over Foster (58.20). Bognar earned her second individual title in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:01.02. Lancaster’s Makenzy Mills was the only swimmer in the field to crack the one-minute barrier in the 100 back, doing so in a swift 57.60.
Dreher’s Jane Koch, Hannah Ammons, Eleanor Wachtel and Mason combined to win the 4×50 free relay in 1:43.05 for the second-straight year. Eastside’s Bognar, Caroline Parker, Ella Penny and Parker concluded the meet with a 4×100 free victory (3:36.62).
Boys Meet

Just like the girls, South Aiken’s Michael Robinson, Wyatt Matthews, Reid Chafin and Jacob Buck began the boys’ meet with a 4×50 medley relay win in 1:35.55. Buck, Lincoln Green, Robinson and Chafin also won the 4×50 free relay (1:27.69).
Buck won the 50 free in 21.46, just out-touching his teammate Chafin (21.51). AC Flora’s Emerson Edwards swam to gold for the second year in a row in the 100 free (46.73) while Chafin (46.97) and Buck (47.39) followed.
Hilton Head Island’s Kevin Geist defended his 200 free title in 1:43.40 while his teammate Cohen Bruner finished second in 1:45.31. Geist also won the 100 fly for the second-straight year in 50.88. AC Flora’s Tanner Edwards powered home to a 100 back win (51.64) while North Augusta’s Zak Griffin (56.89) earned the 100 breast title.
Eastside’s Dawson Kramer led the way in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 1:55.33 ahead of Myrtle Beach’s Ian Morgan (1:56.06). Morgan then went on to win the 500 free in 4:39.38, just over 12 seconds faster than his runner-up finish last year. Kramer combined with Brady Cawthon, Dakota Dudley and Luke Smith to conclude the meet with a dominant 4×100 free relay performance (3:14.21).
