Second Round of Euro Men’s Water Polo Prelims Favors Serbia, Russia and Hungary
FINA Men’s Water Polo World League powerhouse Serbia won their second game of the European preliminaries last night (December 12) in Nis (SRB), beating Montenegro 7-4 (2-2, 2-2, 2-1, 1-1).
In Group B, Russia and Germany scored 8 goals a piece (3-1, 2-2, 2-3, 1-2) in Dresden (GER) but Russia ended winning the game 12-11 after penalty shootout.
Group C’s Hungary defeated the Netherlands 13-6 (2-2, 3-2, 5-1, 3-1) in Alphen aan den Rijn (NED).
As a result of this second round, Serbia has 6 points, while Croatia and Spain who haven’t played last night have 3 points. Hungary has now 3 points, Russia 2 and Germany 1.
Provisional ranking
Group A: SRB 6 pts; MNE 0 pt; ROU 0 pt
Group B: CRO 3pts; RUS 2 pts; GER 1 pt
Group C: ESP 3 pts; HUN 3 pts; NED 0 pt
The third round of the European prelims will be played on January 16. Montenegro will play Romania at home, Germany and Croatia will face each other and Spain will go to Hungary to play their second game of the season.
