SEC Weekly Honors: Luca Urlando Leads Four Georgia Recipients
Luca Urlando joined three Georgia teammates in the SEC Weekly Honors released on Tuesday.
Elliott Woodburn was named the men’s freshman of the week, as was female freshman Samantha Rydzewski. Ieva Maluka of Georgia shared women’s swimmer of the week honors with Bella Sims.
Divers Carson Paul of LSU and Camyla Monroy of Florida were named the men’s and women’s performers of the week, respectively.
Urlando set a nation-best time in the 200 fly of 1:39.03, an NCAA A Cut, in a win at Florida State. He also won the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley, then helped the Bulldogs win the medley relay.
Paul swept springboard honors in a quad meet in Annapolis hosted by Navy. The junior from Canada scored 366.15 to win 1-meter and post the ninth-best score in program history. He tallied 405.90 points on 3-meter.
Woodburn won the 100 breaststroke and finished second in the 200 breast for the Bulldogs against FSU. The native of England teamed with Urlando on Georgia’s winning 200 medley relay.
Sims scored 13 points in a loss to top-ranked Virginia swum in short-course meters. She won the 200 IM in 2:06.75 and finished second in the 200 fly. She was part of Gators’ relays that finished second in the 200 medley and 400 free.
Maluka won four races against FSU. The Latvian Olympian and transfer from Arizona State won the 200 free in 1:45.02, the 200 fly in 1:56.32 and the 200 IM in 1:56.64, all NCAA B cuts. She split 49.06 to anchor the Bulldogs’ 400 free relay victory.
Monroy swept the diving events against Virginia. The Mexican international scored 315.38 to win 1-meter and 346.28 to capture 3-meter in her first meet of the season.
Rydzewski won the 200 back against Florida State for the first race win of her college career. She finished third in the 100 back.
