SEC Showdown: Florida Women Swim Past Rival Georgia

The 11th-ranked Florida women’s swimming an diving team defeated the No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs 173.5-126.5 in an SEC showdown.

The women claimed 10 first-place finishes on Friday morning.

Florida’s relay quartet of Talia Bates, Nina Kucheran, Olivia Peoples, Ekaterina Nikonova finished second overall with a time of 3:36.49 to kick off the meet for the Gators. Amanda Ray led all swimmers in the women’s 200 fly, touching the wall first with a time of 1:58.15.

Florida claimed the top spot in the women’s 50 free, with Katie Mack touching the wall in 22.62.

Carina Lumia won the women’s 3-meter springboard, claiming the top spot with a score of 297.30. Casey Greenberg (268.80) and Elettra Neroni (259.95) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.  Nikonova and Mack placed 1-2 in the women’s 100 free, posting times of 49.14 and 49.41, respectively in the SEC meet.

 Zoe Dixon won the women’s 200 back with a swim of 1:56.00.  Hayden Miller claimed the top spot in the women’s 500 free, finishing with a time of 4:43.56. Bates won the 100 fly for the Florida women, finishing with a time of 53.93.

Elettra Neroni and Carina Lumia grabbed the top two spots on the 1-meter springboard of the SEC dual, finishing with scores of 283.95 and 280.43.

Mabel Zavaros claimed the top spot in the final individual race of the meet, finishing with a time of 4:13.06. Zoe Dixon touched the wall second with a swim of 4:15.73, while Anna Auld (4:17.05) and Kathleen Golding (4:18.13) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The relay team of Bates, Micayla Cronk, Mack and Nikonova touched the wall first with a combined time of 1:30.24 in the final event of the SEC showdown.

The Georgia women’s team posted strong results, including Abby McCulloh tallying the nation’s fastest time in the 1,000 freestyle this season. The sophomore finished the event in 9:42.30, taking the race by a full five seconds.
Callie Dickinson also impressed in the pool on Friday, tying for first in the 100 butterfly with her season’s best result of 53.93. Marie Schobel continued her unbeaten streak this season in the 100 backstroke, finishing first in the event with a season-best B-cut of 53.57. Senior Zoie Hartman also swept both breaststroke events in the meet.
“Florida is a very talented swimming and diving program,” Georgia coach Stefanie Williams Moreno said following the SEC meet. “I was really proud of how everybody competed from start to finish and we didn’t let up. That was the mentality I asked them to have, was to go in and fight.”
