Women’s 100 backstroke

Josephine Fuller, the runner-up in the 200 individual medley, posted the top time in the morning session at 51.58. But all eyes will be on Rhyan White’s bid to win the event for a fourth straight year. The American Olympian coasted into the final with the third-quickest time, 51.56. She’s been 50.84 this year and holds the conference record at 50.02 from 2020. Certainly the pool record of 50.55 (Gemma Spofforth, 2009) is in her sights.

Fuller and second seed Eboni McCarty of Georgia (51.50) are among those trying to play spoiler. Missouri’s Meredith Reese and Ellie Waldrep of Auburn were also sub-52 in the morning.

The race is on in the men’s 100 breast, and that’s before factoring in the guy who entered with the top times. Aleksas Savickas and Dillon Hillis of Florida both secured A cuts in the morning, going 1-2 with respective times of 50.73 and 50.90. That leaves Auburn’s Reid Mikuta, who entered the meet with the top seed and second-best time in the NCAA, third in 51.48. Gators will occupy three lanes in a row, with Julian Smith third in 51.52.
