Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s Shelby Nicolaisen Lends University of San Diego First Verbal for 2021

NEW COMMIT: The University of San Diego has received their first verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Futures qualifier Shelby Nicolaisen of Phoenix, Az.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of San Diego! I want to thank my family, friends, and all my coaches that helped me reach this point.  I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing team! GO TOREROS!”

Nicolaisen swims year-round with Scottsdale Aquatic Club for coaches Kevin Zacher and Bob Platt. She had a great 2019 long course season, going many best times at Mount Hood  Sectionals and Des Moines Futures. She was also an Arizona 2020 Short Course Open Senior finalist in the 200 breast, 200 yard fly, and 400 yard IM at the end of February.

In SCY, her best times include:

  • 200IM – 2:09.58
  • 400IM – 4:30.58
  • 200 fly – 2:09.22
  • 200 breast – 2:28.52
  • 500 free – 5:10.53
  • 1650 free – 17:40.28

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 400m IM-  5:17.76
  • 200m fly – 2:27.06
  • 400m free – 4:38.40
  • 800m free – 9:32.91
  • 1500m free – 18:11.22

Also competing for Desert Vista High School in Phoenix,  Nicolaisen is a four-time Arizona DI State finalist and is a National Honor Society Member. As a junior, she helped Desert Vista place fifth overall in the team standings by taking 13th in the 200 IM, ninth in the 500 free, ninth in the 4×50 medley relay, and seventh in the 4×100 free relay.

Nicolaisen is also a five-time City Individual Champion and was named Athlete of the Year as a sophomore for all sports at Desert Vista for the 2018-19 season.  She was named team MVP for the 2019 season under the direction of head coach Shawn O’Connell.

For the upcoming 2020 season, Nicolaisen was named a team captain and will continue to help lead the team into her final year.
