NEW COMMIT: Bradenton, Fla. native Anna Freed will head to Bloomington in the fall of 2020 after verbally committing to Indiana University.

She will also join Elizabeth Broshears and Ella Ristic as members of the Hoosiers’ class of 2024.

Primarily a backstroker with a strong fly and IM, Freed does her club swimming with Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team and owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts with four additional Summer Juniors standards. She won both IMs at the Florida Spring Championships in March after racing five events at Juniors East in December. This past summer, she earned gold in the 200m IM at Florida LCM Seniors.

Also competing for Bradenton Christian School, Freed is a six-time Florida 1A State Championship finalist. She took second in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 IM as a junior after finishing second and seventh, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and swimming career at Indiana University! I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for all the support and love that helped me prepare for this opportunity! I feel so blessed to be part of the Hoosier family! Go Hoosiers!! #goiu #hoosierdaddy”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 55.37
  • 200 back – 1:58.46
  • 100 fly – 55.85
  • 200 fly – 2:00.84
  • 200 IM – 2:01.91
  • 400 IM – 4:17.33

Freed’s versatility will add valuable depth to the Hoosiers’ roster when she dives in at the start of the 2020-21 season. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 200 back and 400 IM at the 2019 Big Ten Championships where Indiana earned their sixth conference title in program history.
