Sarasota Girls Break Relay Record At Florida 4A State Championships

The 2022 Florida 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships was held on November 5 at the Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center in Stuart, Florida.

GIRLS MEET

Riverview Sarasota began the meet by breaking the state record in the 4×50 medley relay. Taylor SchwenkGracie WeyantAddison Sauickie and Bailey O’Reagan combined in 1:42.04, breaking the old mark of 1:42.34.

Sauickie then went on to win the 200 free, as the recent USC commit won by over three seconds in 1:45.38. She also earned the gold medal in the 100 free with a time of 49.03.

Weyant, a future Florida Gator, won the 200 IM in 1:58.66 as the only swimmer under the two-minute barrier. She led a Riverview sweep as O’Reagan (2:02.18) and Riley Leach (2:02.61) finished second and third, respectively. O’Reagan also won the 500 free in 4:49.28 while Weyant raced to first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.68.

Oviedo’s Sarah Beth Cathcart and her teammate Kaylin Herbet went 1-2 in the 50 free, touching in 23.09 and 23.23. George Steinbrenner’s Bella Answeeney, who has verbaled to NC State, flew to first in the 100 fly in 53.75 while Venice’s Maeve Eckerman powered to the top spot in the 100 back in 54.65.

Boone’s Jacob Hamlin cruised to first place in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:36.29 for the win. He was a double-event winner as he also won the 500 free, finishing in the top spot with a winning mark of 4:22.04.

Venice’s Amadeusz Knop won the 200 IM by exactly a full second, stopping the clock in 1:48.81. He was another double-event winner of the meet as he was also victorious in the 100 back with a time of 49.06. Sarasota’s Liam Heary won twice as well, as he flew to first place in the 100 fly with a winning time of 48.61 and too first in the 100 breast (55.00).

It was a tight race in the 50 freestyle with only .02 separating first and second place. Miami Beach’s Marcoaurelio Lopez-Casula got his hand to the wall the quickest in 20.65, with Gulf Coast’s Jack Stokvis right behind in 20.67. Braddock’s George Gonzalez sprinted to first in the 100 free in 45.25.
