Sarah Thomas, previously of the UConn swim team, recently completed an 82-mile swim across Lake Powell, a reservoir on the Colorado River that straddles the border between Arizona and Utah. The entire swim took her 56 hours to complete.

A native of Conifer, Colorado, Thomas never stopped during her swim, nor did she get our of the water. This qualifies her for a record for an unassisted swim.

Thomas had a team of thirteen people to aid her by delivering food every half hour and being on hand in case of an emergency. The food Thomas consumed consisted of two liquid carbohydrate and electrolyte mixtures to keep her body fueled throughout the grueling swim.

Speaking to The Associated Press afterwards, Thomas mentioned mentioned that “it was difficult to walk afterward because her feet and body were so shaky.”

This was Thomas’ first time completing a swim of this milage.
