Sarah Sjostrom Blasts 24.31 For 50 Free Title In Stockholm; Meet Marks For Glinta & Gose

Sarah Sjostrom continued her scorching form at the Stockholm Open with a 24.31 blast in the 50 freestyle.

Results

Sjostrom – who won Olympic silver in the dash after a year disrupted by injury, surgery and rehab – had clear daylight between herself and Julie Kepp Jensen who clocked 25.06 for second with Theodora Drakou in third (25.37).

The Swede adds the 50 free title to the 50 and 100 fly she has already secured at the meet.

Robert-Andrei Glinta and Isabel Gose both set meet records in the 100 back and 400 free respectively.

Glinta – who set a Romanian record of 52.88 en-route to the European title last year – won in 53.58 ahead of Apostolos Christou, joint European bronze medallist, who clocked 53.59.

Gose got the session off to a flying start with a new meet mark of 4:05.55 more than eight seconds ahead of Sarah Wellbrock – nee Kohler – who came home in 4:13.78.

Anastasia Gorbenko made two trips to the top of the podium after taking the women’s 200 back title in 2:10.84 before returning later in the session to win the 200IM in 2:10.43, 0.44 outside the time in which she won European gold last year.

Katinka Hosszu, the 2016 Olympic champion, was next home in 2:13.14.

Sophie Hansson took the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.00.

Andreas Vazaios won the men’s 100 free in 48.98, Kregor Zirk edged Louis Croenen by 0.07 in the 200 fly in 1:57.51 to 1:57.58 and Richard Nagy took the men’s 400IM in 4:20.69.
