Santa Clara Swim Club Celebrates National College Signing Day

SANTA CLARA – The storied Santa Clara Swim Club will be well-represented next fall in college swimming, with six of its athletes signing national letters of intent to attend prestigious Division I schools.

Aidan Burns – University of Georgia

Burns was a member of Team USA at last summer’s junior Pan Pacific championships, winning the silver medal in the 400 freestyle (3:53.10) and ninth in the 200 free (1:50.48). He was also 19th in the 400 free at the USA Swimming nationals.

Cooper Burrill – Yale

Burrill was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle at the CIF Central Coast Sectional Championships in May behind Burns with a 1:39.56.

David Farr – University of Chicago

A junior national qualifier who specializes in the individual medley, Farr put his photography skills to use at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara this summer, capturing photos for Swimming World.

Michael Messner – Minnesota

Messner swam in the 400 free final at the long course junior nationals, and placed in the top eight of the 800 free as well. He was second to Burns in the 500 free at last spring’s CIF championships. He’ll have another Santa Clara alum on the team at Minnesota, training next to mid-distance freestyle Michael Nunan.

Sarah Shimomura – Arizona

Shimomura picked up two third-place finishes at last May’s CIF championships in the 200 free (1:48.76) and 500 free (4:57.06).

Sandra Soe – UCLA

Soe is the reigning CIF Central Coast Section champion in the 500 free with a 4:47.39 from last May. She also placed second in the 1650 freestyle at the short course junior nationals last May with a 16:24.35.
