San Diego State Adds Verbal from Two-Time YMCA National Champion Jessie McMurray
NEW COMMIT: San Diego State University has earned another verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Felton, Penn. native Jessie McMurray who will join Mai McKenna as a member of the Aztec class of 2024.
Primarily a breaststroker, McMurray owns the U.S. Open standard in the 100m breast and does her club swimming with York and York County YMCA. She placed 13th in the 100 breast at YMCA SCY Nationals in April after racing that event at Winter Nationals in November. Last summer, she earned gold in both the 50m breast and 100m breast at YMCA LCM Nationals where she recorded three best times. Also competing for York Catholic High School, McMurray took bronze in the 100 breast as a junior at the Pennsylvania 2A State Championships.
She told Swimming World:
“Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career for San Diego State class of 2024! Thank you to Coach Shrader and his wife, Coach Allnutt, and the Aztec swimmers for showing me what a great family I’m about to join! Can’t wait to be repping the black and red!”
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:03.29
- 200 breast – 2:19.65
- 200 IM – 2:11.19
McMurray will add valuable breaststroke depth to the Aztecs’ lineup following the graduation of Morganne McKennan and she’ll have one year of overlap with Klara Thormalm. She would’ve scored in the C-final of both breaststroke events at the 2019 Mountain West Conference Championships where San Diego State won the team title.
