Sam Marsteiner Gives NC State First 2026 Verbal Commitment

NEW COMMIT: NC State University has received its first Class of 2026 verbal commitment, which comes from local standout Sam Marsteiner of Raleigh. His 200 fly time is currently the best time in the class.

Marsteiner’s older brother, Matt Marsteiner, is currently a freshman on the Wolfpack’s roster. The two will overlap for two seasons.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at NC State. I’d like to thank the NC State coaching staff for giving me this amazing opportunity. I also want to thank Matt, my parents, my teammates, and coaches for supporting me throughout my swimming journey. GO PACK!”

An Olympic Trials qualifier, Marsteiner does his club swimming with New Wave Swim Team. He raced the 200m fly at Olympic Trials back in June. He capped off the short course season by taking fourth in the 200m fly at NCSA Spring Championships; He took fifth in that event at Juniors East last December.

His best times include:

  • 200 fly – 1:45.29
  • 100 fly – 49.26
  • 1650 free – 15:16.91
  • 500 free – 4:22.68
  • 200 free – 1:38.98

Marsteiner is currently a junior at Crossroads Flex High School.

NC State won its third straight ACC title in 2024. Marsteiner would’ve placed in the top-16 at the conference meet in both the 500 free and mile.
