Race Video: Watch Ryan Hoffer Sets NAG Record in 17-18 100-Yard Freestyle
Scottsdale Aquatics’ Ryan Hoffer posted a blazing fast time of 41.23 in the 100-yard freestyle, a new 17-18 National Age Group Record. Hoffer’s time was well under Caeleb Dressel’s previous mark of 41.90.
Hoffer went a 19.73 in the first 50 yards of his record-setting race at the Speedo Winter Jr. National Championships (West). He won the event by over two full seconds.

Great Job Hoff! Your SAC family is proud of you!
That’s a sick time…holy cow!
That’s a sic time!
I think it’s safe to say this record won’t be broken for the next 500 years
Great parents make great swimmer, enjoyed meeting them at J Nats, keep Cal close to the top??
Ryan’s day was quite a bit more than just a 17-18 NAG.
And despite a world record or two at the 2015 MOA and various other NAGs at Juniors x 2 and NCAP and Katie Drabot’s 27 wins, when Hoffer’s 100 free is backed by a :21.20 backstroke MR leadoff, :19.06 50 free, :45.46 100 Fly and :45.58 100 back, the :41.23 needs to be the Swimming World performance of the week. Hear me, Jeff Commings?!
After all the years of Longhorn sprinters and big championship meets — Hoffer’s :41.23 was a POOL RECORD at Jamail Swim Center.
The American Record is Nathan Adrian’s :41.08 from 2009. Adrian only has one non-suit era swim faster than Hoffer, :41.10, from 2011. No other Americans have ever been faster than Hoffer.
Ryan is now #2 American all-time, as a 17 year old High School JUNIOR, and #4 overall performer with only the US Open record holder Vladimir Morozov (Russia; USC) and Cesar Cielo (Brazil; Auburn), the 50 and 100 LCM WR holder, along with 2012 100 LCM Olympic Champion for America, Nathan Adrian (CAL), wedged in front of Hoffer.
The 17-18 NAG (:41.90, 20th on all-time list) had been held by Caeleb Dressel, who won the 50 Free this spring as a freshman for Florida (:18.77)
The 2015 NCAA D1 championship was won by Alabama’s Gholkmeev (sp?) in :41.56.
Congratulations, Ryan.
