Rutgers swimming and diving celebrated the unofficial start to the season with the annual Scarlet vs. White Intrasquad Meet on Tuesday in the Rutgers Aquatic Center. The White team won the meet with 116 points, ahead of the Scarlet team’s 106.

“There were some great swims and dives today,” said head coach Petra Martin. “We’re happy with where we are after just three weeks of training. We’re about to pick up the intensity in training and really start to get ready for our first meet, so it was nice to see some good swims in our home pool.”

Senior Addison Walkowiak started the day for the Scarlet side with a first place finish in 1-meter diving with a score of 322.86.

White took the lead 62-53 on the back of wins from sophomore Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba (200-yard freestyle), freshman Delaney Carey (100-yard breaststroke), junior Francesca Stoppa (200-yard butterfly), junior Vera Koprivova (100-yard backstroke) and senior captain Karli Rymer (50-yard freestyle).

Scarlet, meanwhile, was led by first place finishes from sophomore Francesca Bertotto in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Fabugais-Inaba won her second race of the day in the 200-yard backstroke for the White team, outdueling school record holder Koprivova. Carey boosted White’s lead with her second victory of the afternoon in the 200-yard breaststroke. Stoppa joined the two-win party for the White squad, touching the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly by just three-tenths of a second ahead of Scarlet’s Federica Greco.

Fabugais-Inaba won a third event in the 200-yard individual medley, and Koprivova closed the meet out with a win for the White team in 400-yard IM.

The Scarlet Knights officially launch the 2017-18 season on FridaySaturday, Oct. 6-7 at the Florida Golf Coast Invitational.
