Ruta Meilutyte Scorches 2nd-Ranked 50 Breast in Sheffield
Ruta Meilutyte chased down her second world-class time this weekend at the Sheffield Premier Meet.
Meilutyte, who moved to second in the world in the 100-meter breast yesterday, jumped to second in the world in the women’s 50-meter breast with a 31.06 in the preliminary heats. Only Jennie Johansson has been faster with a 31.04 from the NSW State Championships. Meilutyte later won the finale in 31.45.
Ben Proud clocked a 23.68 to win the men’s 50-meter fly tonight. That’s just off his fifth-ranked 23.63 posted during the British University Championships.
Sophie Smith clinched the women’s 50-meter free title in 26.12 with Meilutyte putting up a 26.67 in prelims before scratching finals. Smith doubled up for the second day in a row with a 56.28 in the women’s 100-meter free.
Kyle Chisholm won the men’s 200-meter free in 1:51.14, while Eliza Duffy won the women’s 100-meter back in 1:02.48.
Joseph Hulme claimed the men’s 200-meter back title in 2:04.50. Hulme returned in the second session of the day to win the men’s 200-meter IM in 2:08.04.
Abbie Wood took home the women’s 200-meter breast with a 2:29.31. James Wilby posted a 1:01.81 to win the men’s 100-meter breast.
Daniel Cross topped the men’s 50-meter back in 27.21. Tazmin Pugh won the women’s 200-meter fly in 2:14.75.
Adam Fawl claimed the men’s 100-meter fly in 55.43.
