Tyumen officially starts the preparation work for the Winter Swimming World Championship 2016, which will be held for the tenth time in the world and the first time in Russia.

“Winter swimming and hardening in Russia are very popular, and the root of it has its history. It is important to note the presence of the national championships traditions and festivals of winter swimming, which are held regularly in Russia. Russian winter swimmers have been participating in the world championships since the first one in 2000, where Tyumen was represented by Dmitry Dragozhilov,” said the vice-president of the International Winter Swimming Association Aleksandr Jakovlevs.

“The regional project named “Winter Swimmers of Tyumen” was implemented by the party “United Russia” in the Tyumen region in 2011. Since that time Tyumen hosted three huge events of international level such as Winter Swimming Tyumen Open Cup, which gathered athletes from 18 countries and 34 regions of Russia”, noticed the chairman of the Tyumen Sport Winter Swimming Federation, coordinator of the regional party project “Winter Swimmers of Tyumen” Aleksey Salmin.

He believes that Winter Swimming World Championships 2016 will attract additional interest of the world community to the Tyumen region, fixing the status of Tyumen as the capital of the Russian winter swimming and one of the world centers of aqua-sport.

On the first of July the Championship website www.winterswimming.ru will be launched with open registration for participants. You can find all the necessary information for visa, transfers and accommodation in Tyumen, as well as get acquainted with the presentation of the Championship.
