Rookie Queensland Butterflyer Harrison Turner Rewarded With Dolphins Call Up For World Short Course Championships

Brisbane-based Nudgee College 20-year-old Harrison Turner will make his international debut at the Budapest World Short Course (SC) Championship from December 10-15 after being called into the Australian Dolphins Swim team yesterday.

Turner (Dolphin pin number 868) comes into the 24-strong team for Hungary following the withdrawal of four-time Olympic and defending SC backstroke champion Kaylee McKeown.

The Shaun Crow-coached Turner will take his place on the team after winning the 200m butterfly at the recent Australian SC Championships and Trials Meet in Adelaide – the next highest qualifier – the ninth rookie named on the 24-strong team for Hungary.

Turner set six personal best times in Adelaide, including his 1:52.95 in the 200m butterfly –the eighth fastest time by an Australian.

The nine rookies on the Australian team for Budapest are:

Turner had already been named on the 11-member Queensland team for the first two legs of the up-coming World Aquatics World Cup meets in Shanghai, CHN (October 18-20) and Incheon, South Korea (October 24-26).

The emerging ‘flyer will also contest the third and final World Cup meet in Singapore (October 31-November 3).

Joining Turner from the Queensland team for the Singapore leg at their own expense will be: Coleman, Collett, Fredericks, Goedemans and Sommerville.

While McKeown (Griffith University, QLD) and her fellow dual Olympian and World champion and Budapest-bound Isaac Cooper (St Andrews, QLD) will contest all three World Cup meets as will dual Olympian and WSC representative Matt Temple (Marion, SA), his Paris team mate and fellow relay  bronze medallist and WSC representative Josh Yong (UWA, West Coast) as well as Ashton Brinkworth (UWA West Coast, WA) and Yale-based Victorian and Australian Trials  finallist Noah Millard (MLC Aquatic, Victoria).
