Rikke Moller Pedersen Tracks Down Meet Record in Italy
BOLZANO, Italy, November 11. DENMARK's Rikke Moller Pedersen put on a show in the women's 100-meter breaststroke with a winning time of 1:05.99. That swim broke the Bozen International Swim Meet competition record at the meet held in Bolzano, Italy.
Pedersen's swim not only downed the meet record, but also finished about two seconds off her European standard of 1:04.21 set in 2009. Italy's Lisa Fissneider placed a distant second in 1:08.22, while Italy's Chiara Boggiatto took third in 1:09.57. Italy's Fabio Scozzoli won among the men with a 59.40, while Russia's Stanislav Lakhtyukov took second in 1:00.03. Italy's Alessandro Terrin placed thirdin 1:01.57.
Italy's Silva Di Pietro opened day two with a winning time of 59.50 in the women's 100 fly, while USA's Kim Vandenberg touched second in 59.80. Lithuania's Vaiva Gimbutyte placed third in 1:02.74. Russia's Evgeny Korotyshkin earned the men's 100 fly crown in 51.44. The Netherlands' Joeri Verlinden finished second in 52.53, while Germany's Steffen Deibler placed third in 53.06.
The Netherlands' Kira Toussaint captured the women's 50 back in 27.83 with Italy's Laura Letrari (28.16) and Elena Gemo (28.23) taking second and third. Spain's Aschwin Wildeboer finished first in the men's 50 back with a 23.99, while USA's Adam Mania (24.58) and Nick Thoman (24.65) completed the top three.
USA's Madison Kennedy topped the women's 50 free in 24.78, while Italy's Erika Ferraioli placed second in 25.26. Germany's Dorothea Brandt touched third in 25.65. Italy's Federico Bocchia touched out USA's Josh Schneider for the men's 50 free title, 22.04 to 22.11. Russia's Andrey Arbuzov earned third in 22.21.
