A shy two events after posting a new World Junior Record in finals of the women’s 100 IMRikako Ikee, 16, of Japan added a third record to a very successful showing at the Tokyo stop of the World Cup series.

Ikee turned in a final time of 25.73 in the women’s 50 fly SCM to finish second behind Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen. That time edged out the existing World Junior record of 26.05, which was set in 2015 by Russia’s Elizaveta Permiakova.

When FINA began recognizing short course meter records in January of 2015 they set “benchmarks” for times and as those benchmark times are bypassed the record book begins to fill with names.

Prior to the start of the 2016 FINA World Cup Series Permiakova’s 50 fly was the only women’s record with a name associated with it. Since then China’s Zhu Menghui has added her name to the 50 free and Ikee has now claimed a total of three new records (50 fly, 100 fly, and 100 IM).

This is not a photo of Ikee. Not even taken in Tokyo. Any Oriental face will do?

Hi Michael, that is not the case at all. This athlete was mistakenly labeled as Rikako Ikee in our system. The photo has been corrected.
