Richmond Secures Verbal From Junior National Qualifier Caroline Weldon
NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Caroline Weldon of Denville, N.J. has given her verbal commitment to the University of Richmond beginning in the fall of 2022.
She will join Katie Chignell, Caitlyn Hughes, and Julia Krichev as a member of the Spiders’ Class of 2026.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Richmond! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for helping me along the way. I am so excited to join the team in 2022!! Go Spiders!!”
Weldon, who does her club swimming with the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA, most recently earned three best times at the Virtual YMCA Swimming Festival in March. She also raced at both YMCA National Championships in 2019 and finaled in two events at New Jersey Seniors in 2020.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.34
- 100 back – 56.06
- 200 back – 1:59.45
- 100 fly – 58.58
- 200 fly – 2:10.22
- 50 free – 25.65
- 100 free – 54.95
- 200 free – 1:56.96
- 500 free – 5:08.99
- 200 IM – 2:10.86
- 400 IM – 4:35.94
Weldon is a rising senior at Morris Knolls High School.
When she arrives on campus, Weldon will join a training group led by Katelyn Pennell, Mattie Williams, and Olivia Hutton. Her best time in the 200 back would’ve placed fifth at the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championships where Richmond won the team title.
