Richmond Earns First 2022 Verbal Pledge from Alabama State Champion Julia Krichev
NEW COMMIT: The University of Richmond has officially launched into the Class of 2026 recruiting game after earning a verbal commitment from Junior National qualifier Julia Krichev of Huntsville, Ala.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Richmond!! I chose Richmond because I love how supportive and involved the coaches are and the great team atmosphere! I am so thankful for all of my friends, family, and coaches for helping me get to this point, and I am so excited to be a spider!!! ???”
A talented backstroker, Krichev does her club swimming with Huntsville Swim Association and raced two events at the Toyota U.S. Open in November. At the Southeastern Swimming Championships last February, she posted six top-14 finishes including a bronze-medal performance in the 50 back.
In Summer 2019, she was a six-time finalist at the Southeastern LCM Swimming Championships.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.26
- 100 back – 55.62
- 200 back – 2:01.56
- 50 free – 23.78
- 100 free – 52.20
Currently a junior at Huntsville High School, Krichev is a six-time individual Alabama State Championship finalist. She grabbed silver in the 50 free and bronze in the 100 back in 2020 while taking second and first, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
Krichev will make a big impact when she suits up for the Spiders at the start of the 2022-23 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 back as well as the B-final of the 50 free and 200 back at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championships where Richmond placed fourth overall in the team standings.
