CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina swimming and diving saluted its senior class Friday at the dual meet against Duke, and head coach Rich DeSelm talks about preparing to say goodbye to another talented group of athletes.
DeSelm met with the media after Friday’s meet, and he talked about the bittersweet emotions behind Senior Day. He also looked back on the history of racing against ACC rival Duke. The meet was the first of two for UNC last weekend, and DeSelm talked about the importance of his athletes to get excited for racing in every dual meet. He talked about the reasons why he scheduled a meet with a very tough NC State team the day after the Duke meet, saying he wanted to simulate the experience of a championship meet where athletes have to swim fast in two sessions less than 24 hours apart.
“We’re going to have to be outstanding, the best we’ve been all year to be able to stay with (NC State),” DeSelm said.
