Rice Scores Verbal Commitment From Futures Finalist Becca Evans
NEW COMMIT: Fairport Area Swim Team’s (FAST) Becca Evans has announced her verbal commitment to swim for Rice University. The Pittsford Mendon High School senior will join the Owls beginning next fall.
“SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Rice University!! GO OWLS.” – Becca Evans
Evans competes in a wide range of events and will look forward to having an immediate impact competing in the C-USA next year. Her best times, all from the current 2017 year, include:
- 50 Free (23.45)
- 100 Free (50.94)
- 100 Fly (56.29)
- 100 Back (57.45)
- 200 IM (2:05.94)
She concluded her 2017 summer campaign at the Geneva, Ohio Futures meet where she had 3 top-8 finishes – placing third in the 50 meter free (26.76), fourth in the 100 meter free (58.32) and 8th in the 100 meter fly (1:03.31p).
At the 2017 ISCA Junior National Championship Cup in Clearwater, Florida, she competed in 22 total races (individual and relays) and recorded 3 top-8 finishes – placing 8th in the 50 yard fly (25.11p), fifth in the 50 yard free (23.45) and sixth in the 100 yard free (50.94).
Evans is also a 6x High School Swimming All-American, a 2x USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, a member of the Pittsford Mendon High School National Honor Society, plays French Horn in Wind Ensemble and Mellophone in Pep Band.
Depending on where her strengths fall into next year’s Rice team, Becca’s short course times would have been good enough to place 14th (50 Free), 10th (100 Free), 16th (100 Fly), and 16th (100 Back) at the 2017 C-USA Women’s Championship.
