Rice Scoops Up 2021 Verbal Commitments from Sydney Morgan, Megan Schultze
NEW COMMITS: Rice University has begun their class of 2025 recruiting after receiving a pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Sydney Morgan of Cary, N.C. and Coon Rapids, Minn. native Megan Schultze.
Under head coach Seth Huston, the Owls finished second overall in the team standings at the 2020 Conference USA Championships.
SYDNEY MORGAN
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Rice University! Thank you to my parents, teammates, and coaches who have helped me get here. Go Owls!!”
A talented butterflyer and IMer who owns the Junior National cut in the 200 fly with the U.S. Open standard in the 400 IM, Morgan does her club swimming with Marlins of Raleigh. She most recently registered five top-15 finishes at Cary Sectionals after placing 24th in the 400 IM at Juniors East. Last summer, she took fourth in the 200m fly at North Carolina LCM Seniors before going on to take 15th in the 400m IM at Greensboro Futures.
Her best times include:
- 100 fly – 56.57
- 200 fly – 2:01.89
- 200 IM – 2:05.29
- 400 IM – 4:22.75
The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also competed at the 2019 Open Water National Championships. A current junior at Green Hope High School, Morgan finished fourth in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free at the North Carolina 4A State Championships during her sophomore season.
MEGAN SCHULTZE
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Rice University! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for their support and for helping me get to this point! I can’t wait to be an owl!”
Schultze, who owns the Junior National standards in both breaststroke events, swims year-round with The Great Wolf Swim Team. She was the 400 IM runner-up at Minnesota Seniors in March and competed at the Toyota U.S. Open. Last summer, she earned five best times at NCSAs after collecting bronze in the 100m breast at Minnesota LCM Seniors.
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 30.29
- 100 breast – 1:03.51
- 200 breast – 2:17.52
- 200 IM – 2:04.14
Also competing for Coon Rapids Senior High School, Schultze is a six-time Minnesota AA State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed fifth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 100 breast during her junior campaign while taking fifth and fourth, respectively, in those events as a sophomore.
