Regan Smith Lowers 100 Fly 15-16 NAG Record at Akron Sectionals

One night after becoming the fourth-fastest swimmer in history in the women’s 200 back, Riptide’s Regan Smith has posted another jaw-dropping National Age Group record for 15-16 girls, this time in the 100 fly.

Smith recorded a time of 51.63, clipping the previous record of 51.70 set by Beata Nelson in 2014. Rockford Community’s Morgan Kraus took second in 54.54, and Racer X’s Zoe Skirboll was third in 54.86.

In the men’s 100 fly, Greenfield Community’s Zachary Cook took the win in 48.55, followed by Mercy Healthplex’s Gregory Kalin (49.01) and Michigan Lakeshore’s Ian Miskelley (49.21).

Earlier in the night, Alisabeth Marsteller won the women’s 200 free in 1:48.59, with Lake Erie Silver Dolphins’ Portia Brown taking second (1:49.08) and Dexter Community’s Annette Schultz taking third (1:49.35). In the men’s 200 free, Michigan Lakeshore teammates Skyler Cook-Weeks (1:37.28) and Cameron Peel (1:39.30) went 1-2, with Utica Shelby’s Daniel Frederick taking third (1:40.98).

Michigan Lakeshore’s Kathryn Ackerman got the win in the women’s 400 IM in 4:10.20, 10 seconds ahead of Drop’s Madeline Greaves (4:20.09). Third went to Hudson Explorers’ Giovanna Cappabiana (4:22.56). Performance Elite’s Jack Fitzpatrick won the men’s 400 IM in 3:55.70, with Cook-Weeks (3:57.31) and Utica Shelby’s Daniel Frederick (3:58.83) rounding out the top three.

Riptide and Michigan Lakeshore tied for the win in the women’s 4×100 free relay in 3:23.30. Smith led off in 48.81, and teammates Macy KleinNicole Burg and Lucia Rizzo joined her on the Riptide squad, while Michigan Lakeshore’s team consisted of Elle GieslerSage GettingsCaroline Sisson and Ackerman. Hudson Explorer took third in 3:27.05.

Michigan Lakeshore finished 1-2 in the men’s 4×100 free relay. The team of Cameron Peel, Miskelley, Kyle Maas and Cook-Weeks finished in 3:00.26, followed by their “B” team in 3:08.06. Third went to Drop Aquatics in 3:08.33.
