Records Aren’t Enough In USC’s Weekend Defeats

From http://www.usc.edu/dept/swim – Despite setting two new pool records at McDonald’s Swim Stadium, the USC men’s swim team was submerged by No. 1 Stanford and upset by No. 14 California this past weekend. The Trojans fell to the Golden Bears, 124-119, and the Cardinal, 145-98.

“We had some high points, but I really felt like some of the key guys didn’t step up and race as well in these dual meets as they could have,” head coach Mark Schubert said. “It might just be where they are right now, and it will be interesting to see how much we can improve between now and the conference meets with a good rest.”

“Last year, we had a very successful dual-meet season but didn’t quite reach our goal at the end of the season of being (in the) top three, and I think that left a bad taste in everybody’s mouth,” Schubert said. “I’d much rather see us maybe sacrifice a little bit this year during the dual-meet season and be better at the end.”
