Ranomi Kromowidjojo Hospitalized With Meningitis
SANTA CRUZ, The Netherlands, July 23. ACCORDING to various media reports in the area, Dutch sprint superstar Ranomi Kromowidjojo has been hospitalized with meningitis.
Kromowidjojo, who leads the world rankings in the 100 free with a 53.44 from the Amsterdam Swim Cup in March, and stands second in the 50 free with a 24.04 from that meet as well, is reconsidering her involvement with the European Long Course Championships. The meet begins on August 9.
Should Kromowidjojo elect to withdraw from the meet, the vaunted Dutch sprint quartet will be down to one – Femke Heemskerk. Inge Dekker has already withdrawn from the meet due to a shoulder injury, while Marleen Veldhuis gave birth to her daughter Hannah in June and will not be ready to re-enter competitive swimming until the European Short Course Championships later this year.
