SANTA CLARA, California, June 21. SWIMMAC’s Micah Lawrence turned in a dominant effort in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara tonight.
Lawrence powered her way to a winning time of 2:26.53, beating the rest of the field by more than three seconds in the process. She’s been much faster this year with an 11th-ranked time of 2:24.68 at the Charlotte stop, but her speed tonight was more than enough to win tonight.
BlueFish’s Laura Sogar collected silver in 2:29.57, while NBAC’s Annie Zhu touched just half-a-second back with a 2:30.02.
Canada’s Tera Van Beilen claimed fourth overall in the finale with a 2:30.34, while 16-year-old Emma Schanz of the Spokane Waves took fifth in 2:30.66. This morning, she clocked a 2:30.63 to cut 14 seconds from her previous lifetime best of 2:44.24 and proved it wasn’t a fluke tonight.
Tucson Ford’s Emma Schoettmer (2:30.72), BlueFish’s Elizabeth Beisel (2:31.29), Madisyn Cox (2:31.97) and California’s Caitlin Leverenz (2:34.96) raced to sixth through ninth in the championship finale.
