NEW COMMIT: Huntersville, N.C. backstroker and IMer Sarah Barton has handed the University of Nebraska, Lincoln their first verbal commitment for the class of 2024.

Barton, who owns a pair of U.S. Open standards, swims year-round with SwimMAC Carolina and raced two events at Junior Nationals this past summer after recording four top-5 finishes at North Carolina LCM Seniors. Last winter, the two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed 18th in the 200 back at Juniors East. Also competing for Southlake Christian Academy, Barton won the 100 back and 200 IM as a junior at the NCISAA DII State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Nebraska!! I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and teachers that have supported me over the years and through this process. Nebraska is an amazing place and I cannot wait to join my future coaches and teammates! GBR!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 56.57
  • 200 back – 1:58.79
  • 200 IM – 2:05.99
  • 400 IM – 4:29.03
  • 500 free – 5:03.20

Barton will be a huge asset to Nebraska’s lineup when she arrives on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season as her best times already rank near the top of their roster. She has made major improvements the past two seasons, dropping five seconds in the 100 back, 13 in the 200 back, 11 in the 200 IM, and 32 in the 400 IM.
