NEW COMMIT: North Carolina State University has scored a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from freestyler Owen Lloyd of Chapel Hill, N.C.

Lloyd, who owns the Olympic Trials cut in the 1500m free with four additional Summer Juniors standards, does his club swimming with North Carolina Aquatic Club. He most recently competed at Junior Nationals where he placed ninth in the mile after winning the 800m/1500m free combo at North Carolina LCM Seniors. Last winter, he raced four events at Juniors East before going on to earn five best times at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals in March.

Also competing for Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, Lloyd is a four-time NCISAA DIII State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 200 free and 500 free as a junior after winning the latter as well as taking fourth in the 200 IM during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“Super excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at NC State University as part of the class of ‘24. Big thanks to my family, coaches, and friends who have helped get me here. #gopack”

His best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:29.17
  • 1000 free – 9:19.84
  • 1650 free – 15:24.39
  • 200 IM – 1:54.00
  • 400 IM – 3:57.23

When he suits up for the Wolfpack as a member of the class of 2024, Lloyd will add his talents to a training group led by Eric Knowles and Gil Kiesler. Lloyd has made significant improvements over the past two seasons, knocking off 20 seconds in the 500 free, 34 seconds in the 1000 free and well over a minute in the mile.
