On Friday night at the 2018 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in Charlotte, Queens senior Paul Pijulet broke the NCAA Division II record in the 100 back with a 46.15. Pijulet broke the record of 46.27 that was set by Marco Palacios of Florida Southern at the 2016 NCAA’s leading off the 400 medley relay.
Pijulet is one of the most versatile swimmers in Division II as he is capable of swimming practically anything at the Division II level. The France native is the defending Division II champion in the 100 back when he won last year at 46.58.
Pijulet finished ahead of Queens teammate Zach Bunner (47.31) and Wingate’s Baptiste Leger (48.74) and Sebastian Holmberg (48.84) in the final.
Pijulet is most likely not rested for the Bluegrass Mountain Conference meet as he could possibly be the first Division II swimmer to go 45 seconds in the event.
Baptiste Leger is from Queens
Unless the rules have change that I’m not aware of and that is him in Lane 5 that is an illegal start with his toes over edge on the start. Lane 6 is an example of a legal start.
The photo used is an old one and was not during this competition
I see he was in Lane 4 in the finals so it can’t be the same race. Hopefully this technique was not used in the record setting race as the record would be tainted. His coach needs to clean this up.
Congratulations
