Purdue University Picks Up Verbal Commitment from Futures Qualifier Connor McCarthy
NEW COMMIT: Futures qualifier Connor McCarthy of Elmhurst, Ill. has announced his verbal commitment to Purdue University and will arrive in West Lafayette in the fall of 2021.
He will join Chandler Lipp, Ryan Zerpa, Luke Fortner, Idris Muhammad, Brady Samuels and Lance Lesage as a member of the Boilermakers’ class of 2025.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m very proud to announce my decision to continue my swimming and academic career at Purdue University. I would like to thank my parents, family, coaches, teammates, and friends who have helped me to get here. Boiler up!!“
A versatile swimmer, McCarthy does his club swimming with FMC Aquatics and earned two best times at Illinois Seniors in March where he finaled in the 50 free. In Summer 2019, he notched a pair of lifetime bests at Illinois LCM Seniors before going on to compete at Minneapolis Sectionals.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 21.39
- 100 free – 46.71
- 200 free – 1:43.82
- 100 back – 53.50
- 200 back – 1:57.87
- 100 fly – 50.92
- 200 fly – 1:57.42
- 200 IM – 1:54.94
- 400 IM – 4:07.04
Also competing for Fenwick High School, McCarthy has competed at the Illinois State Championships the last three seasons. At the IHSA Fenwick Sectional Championship during his junior season, he won the 100 fly and was the runner-up in the 200 IM.
Under head coach Dan Ross, Purdue finished seventh in the team standings at the 2020 Big Ten Championships.
