Purdue Sweeps In-State Rivals at Dan Ross Invitational

The Purdue Boilermakers hosted eight schools from around Indiana Saturday in a meet dedicated to retired men’s head coach Dan Ross. The Purdue women scored 865 points in the meet, annihilating the score of the next-best team, Indy (329), while the men beat Indy by 40 points, 600.5 to 560.5.

Purdue’s team of Abby MarcukaitisMasy FolcikKeira Kask and Lara Phipps opened the meet winning the 200 medley relay in 1:42.40. Hannah Hill won the 50 freestyle (23.11), and Maggie Love claimed first in the 100 IM (55.97). Phipps scored first in the 100 free (50.72), followed by Marcukaitis winning the 100 backstroke (54.94).

In diving, Purdue’s Daryn Weight won 1-meter (346.45) and Sophia McAfee topped 3-meter (353.65). Hill, Cecilie WiuffKathryn Ackerman and Love swam a time of 1:33.48 for the win in the 200 free relay.

Indy’s Andrea Gomez Espionsa topped the 100 fly (55.82), and teammate Celina Schmidt won the 100 breast (1:01.83) while Emmaleigh Zietlow from IU Indianapolis won the 200 free (1:47.99) and 500 free (4:51.16).

Indy’s men opened the meet with a win over the host team as Mattia RossiBrayden ColeOskar Sawicki and Jeremias Pock won the 200 medley relay in 1:27.84, but the Boilermakers quickly restored order in diving, with Jordan Rzepka winning 3-meter (431.25) and 1-meter (393.60).

Purdue’s Idris Muhammad clocked 20.00 to win the 50 free, and Nathaniel Thomas scored the win in the 100 free (45.55). Brady Samuels took first in the 100 back (48.65) while Thomas, Connor McCarthyDominic Mazurek and William Jost cruised with a time of 1:22.29 in the 200 free relay.

Indy’s Cedric Buessing won the 200 free (1:36.13) and 500 free (4:23.36) while Pock won the 100 IM (48.91) and 100 breast (52.21). Elias Noe scored a narrow win in the 100 fly (48.17).
