NEW COMMIT: Zionsville, Ind. native and current high school junior Coleman Modglin has verbally committed to in-state Purdue University as a member of the class of 2024.

Primarily a breaststroker, Modglin swims year-round with Zionsville Swim Club and owns the Summer Juniors standard in both breaststroke events. He most recently competed at Indiana Seniors where he earned gold in the 200 breast after placing 19th in that event at Juniors East in December. This past summer, he recorded a trio of best times at Indiana LCM Seniors before going on to earn bronze in the 200m breast at NCSAs.

Also competing for Zionsville Community High School, Modglin is a three-time Indiana State Championship finalist. He finished third in the 100 breast and 11th in the 200 IM as a junior after placing eighth in the former event during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career with Purdue University. Thank you to everyone who played a role in this journey, especially my parents, my coaches, and my teammates. The coaches and swimmers at Purdue immediately made me feel at home. I can’t wait to be a Boilermaker. BOILER UP!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.53
  • 200 breast – 1:59.46
  • 200 IM – 1:52.42
  • 400 IM – 4:02.81

Modglin has improved tremendously over the past three seasons with well over a year to go before suiting up for the Boilermakers: he has dropped seven seconds in the 100 breast, 16 seconds in the 200 breast, 19 seconds in the 200 IM and 40 seconds in the 400 IM. He will have one year of overlap to train with Trent Pellini, Purdue’s only scoring breaststroker at the 2019 Big Ten Championships.
