Purdue Scores Verbal Commitment from Erin Verbrugge
NEW COMMIT: Purdue has recently gained a verbal commitment from versatile in-state swimmer Erin Verbrugge. The Westfield native will make the move to West Lafayette in the fall of 2019.
In club swimming, Verbrugge represents Westfield Aquatics and is a Junior National qualifier in the 200 IM. She recorded a new personal best in the 100m back (1:07.45) at the Cary Futures Championships this August. At the Indiana Senior Short Course Championships in March, she finaled in five events and recorded four new lifetime bests.
Verbrugge also competes for Westfield High School and is a four-time finalist at the IHSAA State Championships. During her junior season, she finished fifth in the 100 back (56.16) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:05.62).
She told Swimming World:
“The Purdue team culture is something I really admire, and it was one of the main reasons why I chose to become a Boilermaker. I’m so excited to continue swimming at Purdue! Boiler up!”
Her best times include:

- 400 IM – 4:29.94
- 100 back – 55.66
- 200 back – 2:00.82
- 100 breast – 1:04.24
- 100 fly – 57.91
Verbrugge will be valuable to the Boilermakers when she arrives on campus as part of the class of 2023. She will have one year overlap to train with top returning IMers Natalie Mudd and two years with Natalie Myers. Purdue finished sixth at last season’s Big Ten Championships.
