Purdue Scores Verbal Commitment from Breaststroker Andrew Witty
NEW COMMIT: Purdue University has earned a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from breaststroker Andrew Witty of Bainbridge Island, Wash.
Witty, who owns a pair of U.S. Open standards, swims year-round with Bainbridge Island Swim Club and most recently recorded a pair of best times at Junior Nationals this past summer. Last winter, he raced four events at Juniors West before going on to record three top-20 finishes at Federal Way Speedo Sectionals.
Also competing for Bainbridge High School, Witty is a six-time Washington 3A State Championship finalist. He placed third in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 IM as a junior after finishing fifth and third, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American has also been a part of his team’s record-setting relays.
He told Swimming World:
“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Purdue University. I would like to thank my coaches, teammates and parents for an incredible club and high school experience. I am looking forward to expanding these experiences as a Boilermaker and the opportunities ahead.”
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 56.90
- 200 breast – 2:02.77
- 200 IM – 1:54.05
When he suits up for the Boilermakers as a member of the class of 2024, Witty will add his talents to a breaststroke group led by Trent Pellini and Nicholas Sherman. He will also join Andrew Swenson, Kevin O’Dare, Coleman Modglin, Griffin Seaver and Ethan Shaw next fall in West Lafayette.
