Purdue Scores 2020 Verbal from Quickly-Improving Breaststroker Masy Folcik
NEW COMMIT: Rockford, Mich. breaststroker and high school junior Masy Folcik has announced her verbal commitment to Purdue University beginning in the 2020-21 season.
Primarily a breaststroker, Folcik does her club swimming with Rockford Riptide Swim Team. She owns the U.S. Open cut in the 100 breast and most recently raced a trio of events at Juniors East in December. She concluded her summer season with a fourth-place showing in the 100m breast at Spire Speedo Sectionals and achieved four lifetime bests. Also competing for Rockford High School, Folcik is a six-time Michigan DI State Championship finalist. She placed third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM as a junior after placing fourth in the former during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Purdue University! Thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout the process. Boiler Up!”
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:02.98
- 200 breast – 2:20.26
- 200 IM – 2:05.46
Although she’s not quite in scoring range just yet at the Big Ten Championships, Folcik has continuously made improvements each season: she has dropped five seconds in the 100 breast and eighth in the 200 breast over the past three years. She’ll join Hayley Pike as a member of the class of 2024.
